What Is Rensselaer County?

Rensselaer County is an open-world driving and life roleplay game on Roblox, created by the developer threeseries and first published on January 28, 2020 (Place ID 4637668954). The game map is modeled after East Greenbush, a real area in Rensselaer County, New York, and focuses on driving, working jobs, earning cash, buying vehicles, and claiming houses.

As of August 2026, the game is running Update 5.9.6 (the "August Update"), which added a revamped dealership, new vehicle customization system, new homes and neighborhoods, a revamped mail job, and improved towing mechanics. The official Roblox group is Rensselaer County Official (group ID 5499489).

Controls: How to Drive

On keyboard, press W/A/S/D to accelerate, steer, and brake. Press F to start or stop the engine. Use E to shift up and Q to shift down through gears (Park → Reverse → Neutral → Drive). Press B to buckle your seatbelt and P to toggle the parking brake. Turn signals use Z (left), X (hazards), and C (right). Press L for headlights.

On mobile or tablet, on-screen pedals and steering controls appear on both sides of the interface. For realistic gearing, enable it in Settings — you must manually turn on the engine and shift with E and Q. The game also features a backup camera in reverse with multiple angle options.

Getting Your First Car

Walk into the Apex Auto dealership (based on the real-world Lia Toyota of Colonie) and press E to open it. The dealership features 415 parking spots and a new 3D UI as of Update 5.9.6. Sort by price ascending to see the cheapest beginner cars first — the lowest-priced vehicles start around $2,100.

Select a vehicle, choose your trim level (base, mid, or top), pick exterior color and wheels, then confirm your purchase. Walk outside and press the car icon at the top of the screen to spawn, despawn, lock/unlock, or sell your vehicle. The key fob also lets you remote-start, lock/unlock by proximity, and activate a panic button.

Earning Money

The simplest way to earn cash is by driving at the speed limit — you receive $100 every 15 seconds passively. Driving above the speed limit reduces or eliminates this income. For faster earnings, take an Interactive job from the jobs clipboard: RoSwift and RoDash delivery, Grocery Cashier, Gas Station Cashier, and seasonal work like Snow Plow or Santa Delivery all pay in-game cash.

You can also earn free money through the rewards system: play for 25 minutes ($5,000), join the official Roblox group ($5,000), or invite 3 friends ($5,000). Redeeming active codes gives instant cash bonuses — check the codes page for the latest working codes. The junkyard system (introduced in Update 5.7.0) lets you buy damaged vehicles cheap, repair them, and sell for profit.

Claiming a House

Drive to any unclaimed house and press E (or tap on mobile) to claim it. The House App on your in-game phone lets you lock/unlock doors, open/close the garage, and grant access permissions to other players (useful for roommates in roleplay). To switch houses, hold the house icon in the app for 1-2 seconds to unclaim, then claim a new one.

As of Update 5.9.6, houses can be customized with different floor plans, garage styles (attached garage or open carport), and exterior designs (designer, standard, or beater/improvish). Full house customization requires the Premium House Gamepass.

Phone Features

Your in-game phone includes a GPS with turn-by-turn navigation (shows distance and estimated time), a messages app for in-game chatting with other players, a camera app for free-cam screenshots, and the House App for home management. The RoSwift/RoDash app shows delivery missions — pick up passengers or food and drive them to their destination for pay.

The Vehicle app on your phone handles remote start, lock/unlock, horn, flashing lights (useful at night), Bluetooth music (costs 40 Robux), and vehicle details. The Settings app lets you adjust graphics (lower tree quantity on mobile for better performance), dynamic lighting, and realistic night lighting.

Jobs Overview

The game offers 26 job entries split into two categories. Interactive jobs pay cash: RoSwift, RoDash, Snow Plow (seasonal), Grocery Cashier, Gas Station Cashier, Santa Delivery (seasonal), NYSP, EGPD, SWAT, and DOT (requires DOT Gamepass). Non-Interactive jobs are for roleplay only and do not pay cash — these include Civilian, Criminal, Doctor, Mechanic, various restaurant employees, and more.

Interactive jobs show "Start" next to them in the jobs menu, while non-interactive jobs show "Join." The DOT job is the only one that requires a Gamepass to access among the standard Interactive jobs.

Settings Tips

Lower-end devices (phones, tablets) should set tree quantity to Low and disable global shadows for better performance. PC players can enable dynamic lighting and realistic night lighting for a more immersive experience. The realistic gearing option adds manual transmission control with Park, Reverse, Neutral, and Drive positions — recommended for a more authentic driving feel.
